Exxon has record profit again on soaring oil prices
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Exxon Mobil Corp (XOM.N: 行情) said on Thursday soaring oil prices pushed its second-quarter earnings up 14 percent, again breaking its own record for the highest-ever profit by a U.S. company. Net income in the quarter rose to $11.68 billion, or $2.22 a share, from $10.26 billion, or $1.83 a share, last year.
Deutsche Bank writedowns swell beyond $11 billion
FRANKFURT (Reuters) - Deutsche Bank AG (DBKGn.DE: 行情) announced fresh writedowns on Thursday, taking its bill from the global financial crisis beyond $11 billion. Germany's flagship financier had originally been seen as one of the few to emerge unscathed from the crisis, but as the problems on global markets continue Deutsche Bank is being sucked ever deeper into trouble.
Motorola posts small profit, keeps No. 3 ranking
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Motorola Inc (MOT.N: 行情) posted a small profit on Thursday as it sold more mobile phones than expected and narrowly kept its No. 3 global ranking in the mobile phone market ahead of LG Electronics Inc (066570.KS: 行情). Its shares rose 10 percent to $8.50 in premarket trade after the company also said it expects to report a profit for the full year.
Wall Street stock futures down; eyes on Exxon, GDP
(Reuters) Dow Jones futures were down 0.3 percent on Thursday at 5:25 a.m. EDT and S&P 500 futures were also lower by 0.2 while Nasdaq futures were down by 0.1 percent. Close to 40 S&P 500 .SPX companies were due to report on Thursday; among them oil major Exxon Mobil (XOM.N: 行情), online travel agency Expedia (EXPE.O: 行情), tire maker Goodyear (GT.N: 行情), credit card company MasterCard (MA.N: 行情), breakfast cereal maker Kellogg (K.N: 行情) and mobile phone maker Motorola (MOT.N: 行情).
Ex-Credit Suisse broker missing as securities probe nears: report
(Reuters) - A former Credit Suisse (CSGN.VX: 行情) broker charged with fraud in an auction rate securities scam may have fled to his native Bulgaria, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday, citing people familiar with the case. The move comes as prosecutors prepare to bring criminal charges in a probe into activities of two former Credit Suisse brokers -- Bulgarian-born Julian Tzolov and Eric Butler -- claiming they lied to investors about how they placed money into short-term securities, the Journal said.
Chrysler in talks with Tata and Fiat: sources
DETROIT (Reuters) - Chrysler is in talks to lease U.S. production capacity and share retail distribution with Fiat SpA (FIA.MI: 行情), allowing the Italian automaker to return the U.S. market for the first time in 25 years, people briefed on the talks said on Wednesday. Chrysler, the No. 3 U.S. automaker, has also been in discussions with India's Tata Motors Ltd (TAMO.BO: 行情) about selling its Jeep Wrangler SUV in India and possibly other Asian markets, said the sources, who were not authorized to discuss the negotiations.
