They're still scratching their heads....kids and teachers at Stanford Avenue Elementary baffled by all the DEAD FISH littering the playground...SCORES of them. (SOUNDBITE) CAMPUS SUPERVISOR, LIZ BARBER-GABRIEL, SAYING: "We were trying to figure out where they came from. We couldn't figure it out, they weren't any place except on the playground, in the drinking fountain, in the rubber -- everywhere." The school custodian even found fish on the roof. School supervisors say they didn't see anyone enter the school grounds. So...where did they come from? (SOUNDBITE) CAMPUS SUPERVISOR, LIZ BARBER-GABRIEL, SAYING: "Years back there was an account of raining Trout in Chico, so my thoughts were, 'did they come from the fish hatchery'? The hatchery says no. But biologists say thunderstorms AND water spouts can pick up small fish from waterways and dump them elsewhere -- up to four miles away in some cases! Meteorolgists, however, say they're not aware of any recent weather pattern that could have produced this particular ... school of fish.
