Union at Chile's Escondida copper mine tells BHP to improve contract offer by Aug 6

SANTIAGO, Aug 2 (Reuters) - The union at BHP's Escondida mine in Chile, the world's biggest copper mine, said on Thursday that it had set a deadline of August 6 for the company to improve its contract offer or it would begin preparations for a strike.

Workers at the mine announced earlier on Thursday that they had voted to reject the company's final wage offer.
