POLITICS

A top official from Italy's ruling League party voiced opposition on Thursday to German central bank chief Jens Weidmann becoming the next governor of the European Central Bank, saying such an appointment could lead Europe to disintegrate.

(*) BANCA CARIGE

The bank's top shareholder Vittorio Malacalza has met with the lender's second-largest investor Gabriele Volpi, but their positions remain distant, Il Sole 24 Ore said.

The European Central Bank is said to have sent a letter to Malacalza in the context of the escalating governance row at the bank, MF said, but added the letter's content remains "secret".

EI TOWERS, MEDIASET, RAI WAY

A joint takeover by Italian infrastructure fund F2i and broadcaster Mediaset MS.MI of masts group EI Towers will pave the way for a merger with rival Rai Way, a source directly involved in the takeover said.

(*) TELECOM ITALIA

Brazil's TIM Participacoes, a unit of Telecom Italia, missed quarterly profit estimates on Thursday, as the company reported growth from all revenue sources despite the country's fragile economic recovery.

ENEL

Shares in Rio de Janeiro electricity distributor Light SA rose over 12 percent on the Brazilian stock exchange after the chief executive of Italy's Enel signaled the utility's interest in possibly acquiring the company.

(*) FIAT CHRYSLER

Fiat Chrysler (FCA) FCHA.MI has kicked off its planned spin-off of parts maker Magneti Marelli which will be registered in the Netherlands and listed on the Milan stock exchange, a document outlining initial plans and seen by Reuters showed.

The production of the Fiat Panda will remain at the Pomigliano plant in Italy until 2022, the Fiom union said in a statement following a meeting with the company's managers and officials from the labour ministry.

Goldman Sachs rasied its rating on the stock to 'buy' from 'neutral' and its price target to 36 euros from 31 euros.

PRYSMIAN

The world's largest cable maker said on Thursday the offer of option rights in a capital increase was completed with 97.8 percent of shares subscribed.

ALIBABA GROUP

Conference on "The Colours of Italian Beauty" with Southern Europe Managing Director Rodrigo Cipriani Foresio in Milan (0800 GMT).

BB BIOTECH

Board meeting on H1 results.

SPAXS

Presents Business Combination with Banca Interprovinciale and 2018-2023 strategic plan with Executive Chairman and CEO of the new bank Corrado Passera (0900 GMT). (*) The bank targets net profit of around 300 million euors in 2023 and a return on equity of around 25 percent.

ESPRINET

Esprinet said its board had approved the merger of Edslan and Mosaico by incorporation.

ALKEMY

Alkemy said on Thursday it had bought an initial 51 percent stake in Ontwice Interactive Services.

EasyJet is still keen on parts of Alitalia after an Italian minister said this week the government wants the majority of the carrier under state control, the chief executive of the British low cost airline told daily Corriere della Sera.
