Spain to pore over IFM's 5 bln euro bid for stake in Naturgy

MADRID, Jan 28 (Reuters) - The Spanish government will analyze thoroughly whether to authorise the 5.06 billion euro ($6.12 billion) bid made by Australian-run fund IFM for a minority stake in Naturgy, Economy Minister Nadia Calvino said on Thursday.

“We have to analyse in depth and much detail this operation because it involves an operator in a strategic sector - energy - and critical infrastructure,” she told an economic event.

In a bid to protect companies deemed “strategic”, Madrid has passed a bill giving the government the power to block acquisitions by foreign companies.
