EDITORS PLEASE NOTE - THIS VIDEO CONTAINS GRAPHIC IMAGES Police in Chicago released the long-awaited video that shows a 17-year-old black teenager being shot 16 times by a white police officer. The video shows two police officers jumping out of their car and drawing their weapons while advancing toward Laquan McDonald. Within seconds the teenager is struck by bullets and falls to the ground, his body jerking as he is hit by additional rounds of gunfire. The shooting happened last year, but the video was released Tuesday. The officer, 37-year old Jason Van Dyke, has already been charged with first degree murder in a prosecution that was sped up with the hopes of avoiding racial turmoil over the use of lethal police force that's gripped the U.S. for more than a year. Protesters marched in the city on Tuesday evening after the video was released. McDonald's family along with city and community leaders had asked demonstrators to remain calm. The officer has said through his lawyer and the police union that the shooting was justified because he felt threatened by McDonald. If convicted, Van Dyke could face 20 years to life in prison.
